Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Has this grant scheme replaced the former Activate and Traws Cymru grant schemes administered by the Trust?A. Yes, these two former grant schemes have been merged into one and the guidelines and application form have been altered to make the process easier for applicants and more manageable for the Trust. Activate and Traws Cymru are no longer in operation.
Q. My organisation has already received funding from the Trust, can we re-apply?
A. All charitable and voluntary organisations are eligible to apply to this scheme. However, if funding is offered, successful applicants are not eligible to re-apply until three years after the initial grant offer date. This date will be confirmed in the offer letter issued by the Trust.
Q. My organisation has already applied but was unsuccessful. Can we re-apply?
A. All charitable and voluntary organisations are eligible to apply to this scheme. If your application is rejected you can reapply to the Trust one year folllowing your receipt of the decline letter.
Q. I am a local authority – can I apply?
A. No. Applications will not be accepted from local authorities, which includes local authority schools. However, applications can be accepted from separately constituted organisations such as Parent Teacher Associations and After School Clubs. The Trust will support applications from groups working with local authorities, in this case the applicant must be the organisation and not the local authority.
Q. My application was rejected by the Trust. Can you give us a reason for this rejection?
A. Unfortunately there is no appeals process. Every year we receive far more applications than we can fund and therefore we have to reject many applications, which, although eligible under our guidelines, are of lower priority. This is not a reflection of the quality of a project but is a result of the high pressures on our funds. Trustees often have very difficult decisions to make and applicants are asked to appreciate this.
Q. My organisation’s application has been rejected and we want to re-apply but do not know the reason for the last rejection. What can we do to improve our application?
A. Talk to the Trust staff when you re-apply. The Trust staff are always keen to offer advice and can often help you improve the quality of your application.
Q. Why do you need to see a copy of our bank statement and constitution?
A. We need to verify that your organisation is properly constituted not-for-profit. Your constitution or trust deed will provide us with this information. Your bank statement provides us with proof that you are operating as a professional organisation.
Q. We are not a registered charity – can we still apply?
A. Yes. Your organisation must be not-for-profit and properly constituted.
Q. Does the Trust have a bilingual policy?
A. Yes. The Trust has a bilingual policy and you can correspond with the Trust in English or Welsh at any time during the application process.
Q. How much funding has the Trust issued to date?
A. The Trust has offered over £3 million to community groups throughout Wales.
